Fire Destroys Ellensburg Food Bank

Food bank volunteers are picking up the pieces after fire destroys their warehouse in Ellensburg.

The fire was reported just after 8 this morning at the FISH Food Bank.

Crews arrived and found nearly the entire building engulfed in flames — the building and all of it’s contents were ruled a complete loss.

The organization helps provide food and other services to those in the community who are less fortunate.

Organizers say they will continue to run operations from various other locations in town who are opening their doors — those are a mix of non-profits and local businesses.

That could happen as early as Monday.

“Because people care, this is a community food bank,” said food bank director Roger McCune, “That’s why I feel very confident that we’re are going to be able to keep going fairly soon.”

Those exact locations will be determined over the weekend — the food bank ispartnered with Northwest Harvest, which is helping restock their food supplies.

A cause for the fire has not yet been determined.
