UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. — Firefighters battled a blaze Saturday that destroyed a motor home, a 5th wheel, three vehicles, a tractor, four small trees a scooter and a 4-wheeler on Weston Mountain.

East Umatilla Fire & Rescue responded about 2:20 a.m. to reports of a fire at a property on Hodgson Road off of Highway 204 on Weston Mountain.

Firefighters say access to water was the biggest barrier in attacking the fire.

“There was only one single-lane road getting to and from the fire,” firefighters said in a news release. “There are no hydrants up there to feed off of, so water tenders had to pump water to the engine.”

Working together, 17 firefighters used an engine, two brush trucks, four water tenders, a medic unit and two command vehicles to extinguish the flames.

No one was injured in the fire. Three people were displaced and were assisted by the American Red Cross.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by, “an electrical component failure.”
