The Yakima Fire Department responded to a reported House Fire at the 1100 Block of Cherry avenue. The first fire crew to arrive found heavy fire inside the north end of the interior of the building. They also stated that the house was emitting thick smoke from all exterior windows.

Fire crews were able to knock down the fire quickly but there was a significant amount of smoke, heat and water damage to the house and the contents. It appears that half of the home will need reconstruction before living conditions can be restored. Fire crews have remained on scene to check for spot fires and to complete the investigation. They are estimated to remain on scene for two to three more hours.

The two occupants in the house at the time of the fire – were able to escape the house safely without harm or injure. Four adults and four children have been displaced and will be in the care of the Yakima Chapter of the American Red Cross until further notice. No firefighters were injured fighting this fire.
