Firefighters contain fire in Kennewick, may have been caused by hunters

Firefighters with Benton County Fire District #1 have contained an approximately 10 acre natural cover fire that started Saturday morning near Nicoson Road, south of Locust Grove in Kennewick. They say it may have been started by hunters who didn’t have permission to hunt in the area.

Firefighters said a white pickup truck was seen leaving the area once smoke was seen.

Saturday is opening day of rifle deer season. Firefighters are warning that while the weather is cooling, fuels are still very dry.

Firefighters used a farm apparatus to assist in containment.
