Firefighters discover two victims inside Toppenish home after extinguishing fire
TOPPENISH, Wash. — The ATF and Yakama Tribal officers are investigating a fire that killed two people.
According to Yakima County Fire District #5, they were called to a 9192 Larue Road for a house fire around 7:15 p.m. When they arrived, a double-wide mobile home was engulfed in flames. Part of the home had partially collapsed.
Fire officials said it wasn’t known if people were inside, per family that lived next door. Firefighters tried to go inside through the uncollapsed portion of the home. However, it was unstable and they had to stand back for safety concerns, officials said in a press release.
The fire was contained in about an hour. Firefighters then went into the home and found two victims in the collapsed area of the home.
Yakama Tribal authorities and the ATF are investigating the cause. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
