Firefighters urge residents to prepare for wildfires

Wild fire season has started and Kennewick firefighters want to make sure you are prepared this year in case of an emergency.

In the past couple of years, wildfires have left their marks on Eastern Washington, scarring the community and even taking lives.

Cpt. Nathan Rabe with the Kennewick Fire Department said in order to prevent tragedy, there are a few things people can do to keep themselves safe.

Some of these things include: Doing a walk around your property and trimming any brush or removing any pine needles in your gutter.

“We want people to think about their property, think about the stuff that they can take care of because when the emergency happens, the fire department — we are pretty busy and anything that the public can do to their own property helps us a great deal and protecting their property,” said Cpt. Rabe.

He also said you should have an evacuation plan in case a wildfire breaks out near your home.
