Fireworks safety: young children

Some of you are going to be using fireworks this Fourth of July, but there are a few safety tips to keep in mind especially if you have young children.

According to Safe Kids Worldwide, each year more than 3,000 children under the age of 15 go to the emergency room for fireworks related injuries.

Safe Kids suggests not using fireworks at home and attending public displays, but if you do use fireworks at home, here are a few tips:

1. Carefully watch kids at all times.

2. – Little arms are too short to hold sparklers, in fact these fireworks account for 1/3 of fireworks injuries for children under age 5.

3. Always have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher ready in case of an emergency.
