New Years baby

RICHLAND, Wash. – The first baby delivered at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in 2020 is a girl!

Carmelita Erlin Castrejon was born to a Connell family at 3:57 a.m. on Wednseday, Jan. 1. She weighed in at 7 pounds 11 ounces.

Her proud parents are Carmen Quezada-Lopez and Erlindo Castrejon. They said Carmelita is their fifth child.

“We’re very happy to have the first baby of the year. We’re really proud of my baby right now,” Erlindo said.

According to a news release, her family dodged tumbleweeds on their way to the hospital — but thankfully didn’t get caught in the mess of tumbleweeds that shut down SR 240 hours earlier.

Carmelita’s family will receive a $50 gift card to the Kadlec Gift Shop and specially made blankets.

It was a busy morning at Kadlec, as three more babies were born at Richland hospital by 9 a.m.
