Five-car pileup on Blue Bridge sends man to hospital, backs up traffic
KENNEWICK, Wash. — A five-car pileup on the Blue Bridge sent one man to the hospital Tuesday morning.
The crash happened when Julio Hernandez Palma, 47, was driving northbound on State Route 395 over the bridge just before 7 a.m., the Washington State Patrol reports.
Troopers said he wasn’t paying attention when he lost control and hit the right Jersey barrier, then overcorrected and hit the left Jersey barrier. Four vehicles crashed behind him in a chain reaction.
Hernandez Palma was injured and transported to Trios Healh. His 2003 Toyota Corrola was totaled.
Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt and no one else was hurt.
Trooper Chris Thorson said traffic over the bridge was backed up for about an hour as all five vehicles involved were towed from the scene.
Hernandez Palma is expected to be charged with negligent driving.
