Founder of Hermiston’s Walchli Farms dies peacefully at 80
HERMISTON, Ore. — The founder of Hermiston’s Walchli Farms has died. He was 80 years old.
Clinton “Skip” Patrick Walchli passed away peacefully among family members in Hermiston on Friday, Sept. 20.
Skip started Walchli Farms about 60 years ago. Today, the family-owned business is widely recognized for producing some of the nation’s tastiest watermelons.
In an interview last August, Skip told KAPP-KVEW the key to producing sweet watermelons lies in the Hermiston’s sandy soil and climate.
A funeral service will be held at the Skip & Sherry Walchli Farm on E. Loop Rd. in Hermiston on Sunday, Sept. 29. After the service, his burial will be at the Hermiston Cemetery at 4 p.m.
