GetMyBoat offers Tri-Citians a chance to get out on the water as summer approaches

KENNEWICK, Wash. — As the weather warms up and the summer months approach, you have the option to set sail with GetMyBoat — a boat rental service in Washington that officials said is similar to Airbnb.

The site’s mission is “to make the joys of boating more affordable and accessible,” a news release said.

Users can check out multiple listings on the GetMyBoat site by choosing from a list of locations.

In Tri-Cities, there are currently four available to rent — one of which is a 35′ Bayliner 3258 Flybridge Cruiser owned by Ken Wright and his wife, Kimmy.

Wright said he’s made about a dozen trips since joining the site about a year and a half ago.

Since then, Wright said some of his favorite memories include being able to provide relaxation for members of the community.

“During the whole pandemic, the one thing that my wife and I really wanted was to get away, and this was a perfect way to isolate and hang out on the boat,” Wright said. “To be able to provide that experience to other people is really important and special to us too.”

Renting Wright’s boat costs $200 per hour with a two-hour minimum, with one to four people being allowed to come on board.

“We really try and make an experience where people don’t have to worry about anything. They don’t have to worry about the expenses of owning their own boat or worry about driving it, so we really enjoy going out on the water and also making people have a good time,” Wright said.

According to GetMyBoat, the average owner earns over $15,000 on GetMyBoat annually.
