‘Give Business a Shot in the Arm’: Gift cards given as vaccine incentive
TRI-CITIES, Wash. — Haven’t gotten vaccinated for COVID-19? Want an extra $50 bucks? Here’s your chance.
Starting Friday, June 11th, if you get your first or second shot at the Columbia Basin College vaccination site in Pasco you will receive a $50 dollar VISA gift card courtesy of the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Washington Business, and the Washington State Department of Commerce, a news release said.
Lori Mattson, the TCRCC president and CEO, said they’re hoping to give people who are still on the fence the push they need to go ahead and get their shot.
“If the state has 70% of our population vaccinated by or prior to June 30th we’ll be able to open sooner and that’s good for everybody,” Mattson said.
Mattson added that they’re also encouraging residents to spend their gift cards on local businesses that are still recovering from the pandemic.
“We’re hearing that people are really excited about this so we’re excited to be participating and to help our local economy as well,” Mattson said. “We’re hoping people take these gift cards and that they spend them locally so that’s also why we’re participating in this. We’re trying to help our local businesses.”
To receive the gift card, the person receiving the vaccination must provide their name and phone number to the Benton-FranklinHealth District representative on-site.
Each person is only allowed one gift card for the duration of the program (either first or second dose, not both), the release said.
