Grant County child missed stop sign, crashed bike into SUV

LAKEVIEW, Wash. — First responders in Grant County helped a 12-year-old child who suffered injuries when they collided with an SUV on Friday night.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, initial reports came in around 6:00 p.m. on October 7. Medics and law enforcement rushed to the intersection of Grant St NW and Ephrata Ave NW in Lakeview, where they made contact with the injured 12-year-old child.

They learned that the child was riding their bike southbound on Ephrata Ave toward the intersection. This child did not see the stop sign at the intersection and proceeded forward, colliding with a Subaru Forester SUV being driven by a 53-year-old Soap Lake woman.

Within three minutes of the initial report, Grant County authorities arrived and medics began to render immediate aid to the injured child. They requested aerial support and had the child airlifted to Confluence Health-Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee for further care. No further details on the child’s status have been made public.

Deputies gathered security camera footage and confirmed that the child rode their bike into the intersection without stopping and looking first. Therefore, no charges are being considered for the woman driving the SUV.
