Suspect wanted out of Grant County brought into custody near Klamath Falls

UPDATE on April 22, 2022: Grant County authorities announced that Nunez, a man wanted out of George, WA for a variety of alleged crimes, was brought into custody by Oregon State Police who tried helping him when he ran out of gas.

According to an update from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, OSP contacted Nunez in Klamath Falls in Southern Oregon. He was allegedly detained for driving without a license when OSP identified that he had four outstanding warrants out of Grant County.

Authorities say he will be extradited back to Eastern Washington shortly.

MOSES LAKE, Wash. — Authorities in Grant County are searching for a man from George, WA who allegedly assaulted and escaped deputies during a confrontation over the weekend. Prior to that, he was wanted for outstanding warrants including a missed sex offender registry and theft.

The suspect in question is Francisco Javier Nunez, a 33-year-old man listed at 5-foot-6 and approx. 150 lbs from Grant County. In a social media alert from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, authorities confirmed that he was the subject of a widescale search near George on Wednesday, April 20.

Approx. 30 law enforcement agents from across the county searched a property located near S.R. 283 and Road 2-Northwest. The operation, which lasted an estimated six hours, was inconclusive.

Local law enforcement received assistance from the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team and Kittitas County Regional Tactical Response Team.

Nunez, who is listed as failing to register as a sex offender with another outstanding warrant for third-degree theft, allegedly assaulted two deputies over the weekend. However, local law enforcement has not offered more details on that altercation.

The search will continue as Grant County authorities turn to the community for any information that might help them find the suspect.
