Health District Notified About West African Traveler
The Benton Franklin Health District was notified Christmas Eve about a man travelling from West Africa, site of the Ebola epidemic, who listed his final destination as Benton County.
Members of the health district staff contacted this individual.
He said that he was in Maryland and would voluntarily stay here during the 21 day monitoring period that travelers from West Africa are watched for possible signs of Ebola.
The man told Benton Franklin officials here he will be checking in with their counterparts in Maryland.
He does not have any travel restrictions.
This information was given to the Benton Franklin Health Department on a precautionary basis.
Department head Dr. Amy Person said it does not mean the individual has or will develop Ebola or that there is any danger in our community.
We simply want you to know exactly what our local health officials are being told.
We are awaiting possible further information as it becomes available from the Maryland State Department of Health and the CDC.
