‘Heavily intoxicated’ man shoots, injures Kennewick resident
KENNEWICK, Wash. — A 61-year-old man has been booked into the Benton County Jail after negligently shooting a firearm, striking another man and injuring him, according to Kennewick Police.
The shooting happened around 1:07 a.m. Monday near the Spring Meadow Apartments.
Officers responded to the area to a report that a 56-year-old Kennewick resident had been shot in the leg.
The Kennewick Police Department says the victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators determined the victim was standing on the sidewalk along S Kent St. when he was struck by a bullet.
The Kennewick Police Department says witnesses led them to a nearby apartment where the suspect, Joel Johnson, had been firing shots.
The 61-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Police say Johnson was heavily intoxicated and negligently shot his weapon, striking one person.
Johnson was booked into the Benton County Jail for third degree assault.
The Kennewick Police Department is continuing to investigate.
