Hermiston PD: Hand grenade found in SUV after driver runs from traffic stop

Hermiston PD find grendade in SUV

HERMISTON, Ore. – Hermiston police found a grenade in an SUV after the driver ran from a traffic stop early Monday.

Police said the unknown driver fled just after midnight, leaving behind a 1992 Ford Explorer. The vehicle contained a hand grenade, scales, packaging materials and a cell phone.

The police department called in the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad to remove the hand grenade. Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston said he does not know if the grenade was active or inert.

Investigators seized items from the vehicle to be submitted to a crime lab for processing. They are trying to identify the driver who fled.

This is a developing story.
