High school students get glimpse into future careers
Rivers Edge High School hosted Launch Day
RICHLAND, Wash. — Nicholas May loves to cook. Currently a senior at Rivers Edge High School in Richland, May dreams of joining the Navy and working as a chef while in the service. May and his classmates got to learn about potential careers Thursday morning as Rivers Edge hosted its 2nd annual Launch Day.
Launch Day is meant to help students learn about potential career paths and gives them opportunities to hear from people in their chosen field, such as law enforcement, fire and emergency management, healthcare, and military service, among others. The school reports eighteen community organizations were in attendance, which gives students like May a lot to think about.
“I’ve heard from employers that they want people who will be involved in the community,” said May, “you have to work hard.”
