High-speed chase in Tri-Cities ends in crash, arrest

KENNEWICK, Wash. – 33-year old Elias Ramirez is now in police custody after leading police on a high-speed chase from Richland to Benton City then back to the Tri-Cities.

According to Sgt. Erikson with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Ramirez was first seen on I-82 heading towards Benton City traveling around 120MPH.

Police attempted a traffic stop near the Benton City exit but were unsuccessful. A spike strip was used at milepost 98 when Ramirez was heading back to the Tri-Cities. Despite his tires being punctured, he refused to stop.

He reportedly traveled through the Columbia Park Trail at a much slower speed but would not yield to police.

Kennewick High Speed Car Chase CrashSpikes were used again at Canal and Kellogg. That’s where a witness told KAPP KVEW the driver was swerving like a pinball down Clearwater Ave.

Ultimately, Ramirez crashed head-on into a Tuff Shed sign on Clearwater Ave near Union St. in Kennewick.

After a short foot chase, the driver was brought into police custody and arrested for DUI and eluding police. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says Elias Ramirez has outstanding warrants including a previous DUI.
