Home Builders Association warns flood victims of scams and provides tips
YAKIMA, WASH. — The Central Washington Home Builders Association is issuing a warning to those impacted by recent floods around Yakima.
It said right now, many property owners are vulnerable and some unlicensed contractors will offer to fix the damage at a cheap price.
It recommends verifying a contractor is licensed, as well as getting a contract in writing.
And if you don’t have flood insurance, always pay by check or money order and keep a receipt.
“Having a registered contractor that has an insurance and a bond you can guarantee that you’ll have a better experience and that your job site will be protected,” said Central Washington Home Builders Association CEO Carly Faul.
If anyone is having trouble verifying if a contractor is licensed, the home builders association can provide a list of reliable contractors.
