Injury collision on I-82 in Yakima sends 20-year-old to hospital
YAKIMA, Wash. — A 20-year-old woman was hospitalized after an injury collision on the eastbound lane of I-82 in Yakima on Wednesday night.
According to a press memo issued by the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the collision occurred around 5:39 p.m. on the evening of Wednesday, June 2. A 75-year-old Wapato man drove his 2018 Chevy Silverado eastbound on I-81 near the E Yakima Ave exit. The victim, who resides in Moxee, drove her 2016 Honda Accord in the same direction.
As traffic picked up, the woman slowed down to keep with the flow of other drivers. The male suspect did not leave enough room in front of his vehicle and rear-ended her car. Officials from the Washington State Patrol say the man has been charged with following too close.
The woman was injured in the crash, though the extent of her injuries wasn’t clarified by the WSP Memo. She was transported to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital to be medically evaluated and treated for her injuries. According to the memo, the man didn’t sustain any serious injuries in the crash.
Each vehicle sustained reportable damage and was towed away from the scene of the crash. The man also had an Eagle Utility Trailer attached to his truck that sustained reportable damage as well.
Local authorities confirmed that impairment from drugs and/or alcohol did not play a factor in this accident.
This is a developing story. An update or follow-up will be issued if new information becomes available to the public.
