YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima County Sheriffs Office is investigating a homicide at the Yakima County Jail.

The Department of Corrections says just before midnight on Sunday a corrections officer found a group of inmates standing over the unconscious body of 36-year-old Jacob Ozuna.

Ozuna was taken to Yakima Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries due to an apparent assault.

Ozuna was a documented Norteno gang member who goes by “Kapone.” He is a six-time convicted felon with a long criminal history. His past crimes include domestic violence, burglary and theft.

He was currently in custody for multiple felony charges including murder, assault and drug possession.

Investigators are questioning five inmates that have been identified as possible suspects.

All the inmates involved are gang affiliated.

The Department of Corrections will also be doing their own internal investigation alongside the Yakima County Sheriffs Office.
