International Yoga Day at ‘Pure Yoga’
RICHLAND, Wash. — It’s International Yoga Day, which is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice. Relatively new, International Yoga Day was proposed by India’s Prime Minister in September 2014 and was proposed as a way to promote international peace and cooperation.
On June 21, the first International Yoga Day was celebrated worldwide and led to a new Guinness Record for the largest yoga lesson and consisted of almost 36,000 participants, in India’s capital of New Delhi.
The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit language and means to join or unite, referring to the union of body and mind. Today, yoga is one of the most popular pastime activities.
