Kennewick police arrest men in alleged fraud scheme

Two men are accused of obtaining thousands of dollars by cashing fraudulent checks throughout Kennewick.

Aaron Lighthall, 20, and Jaden Scheuerlein, 23, were arrested Thursday on several felony charges related to fraud and identity theft..

The Kennewick Police Department launched an investigation into their alleged fraud scheme in October.

On Thursday, authorities caught Lighthall as he was arriving at a bank in West Kennewick.

As a result of his arrest, police were able to identify Scheuerlein as a second suspect and arrested him at another Kennewick address.

Officers found a stolen handgun in Scheuerlein’s waistband while making the arrest. They also found a second handgun and several items related to fraud in his vehicle.

The men were booked at the Benton County Jail for first-degree theft, first-degree identity theft, financial fraud and unlawful issuance of checks. Bail is set at $5,000 for each of them.
