KENNEWICK, Wash. — A Kennewick Mexican food place is feeding people experiencing homelessness on the first Friday of each month.

Hot Tamales is hosting a special dinner event on those days. The next one is this Friday, Dec. 6 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

There will be free tamales and champurrado, and a local outreach group will be there to provide toothbrushes, jackets and more.

Owner Paulina Perez said she really started to notice the issue of homelessness in the Tri-Cities when she saw that people were digging through the restaurant’s trash can.

So she reached out to the Tri-Cities Dream Center, which runs an outreach program called Operation Red Eye, to see if they’d be interested in collaborating. Operation Red Eye focuses on handing out food, clothes and other essentials to the local homeless community.

Hot Tamales and Operation Red Eye have already hosted two dinners together this year.

Perez is inviting people to spread the word about the monthly dinner service.

The restaurant is located at 2521 W Kennewick Ave.
