Kennewick’s newest credit unions have big plans for the community

Two brand new credit unions are in town and both have plans to beautify the areas surrounding their respective Kennewick locations.

In Kennewick, Tri-CU Credit Union opened in November at a new location on the corner of 19th Avenue and Highway 395. Tri-CU has been serving the Kennewick community for 50 years, first founded in 1969 as IBEW #112 Federal Credit Union. It operated at its old office on Kennewick Avenue for nearly 40 years. It currently serves approximately 5,600 members.

Last week, STCU Southridge Financial and Home Loan Center opened on W. Hildebrand Avenue and Highway 395. It’s the first Tri-Cities location for the Spokane-based credit union, which started in 1934 with a shoebox for members’ cash. It has since grown to more than 180,000 members, including 2,400 already living in the Tri-Cities. STCU will also be opening two more locations in the Tri-Cities next year, one in Richland and another in Pasco.

Both credit unions have also announced plans to unveil artwork. STCU’s will be completed in the spring. Tri-CU Credit Union’s piece will be unveiled at a ceremony on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
