KID officials ask residents to look out for burrowing animals near canals

Kennewick Irrigation District officials are warning residents to keep an eye out for burrowing animals near canals.

Last week, a squirrel was spotted on a canal near Finley.

According to KID, burrowing animals are one of the biggest challenges irrigators continue to face.

A burrowing animal caused last summer’s canal breach, flooding an entire neighborhood cul de sac in Kennewick.

The flood put residents in danger as they were forced to evacuate in the middle of the night.

If you see these animals near the canals, you are urged to call KID at (509) 586-9111 or you can email customerservice@kid.org.
