KENNEWICK, Wash. — A man is facing a felony assault charge after he kicked a doctor while being medically cleared for jail, according to Kennewick Police.

Police arrested Jared Barrett, 23, on Sunday morning after witnesses said he stripped his clothes off near Dayspring Ministry, located in the area of East Columbia Drive and North Date Street.

When officers responded around 9 a.m., Barrett was clothed but appeared to be very high on an unknown substance, said Ofc. Craig Hanson.

Based on witness statements, police attempted to arrest him for indecent exposure. However, Hanson said he refused to obey commands and attempt to get away, so police took him down to the ground.

After he was put in handcuffs, police transported Barrett to Trios Medical Center for medical clearance. He allegedly kicked a doctor in the leg at the hospital.

The doctor said the kick hurt but did not cause a significant injury.

Barrett was booked at the Benton County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault 3, a class C felony, along with indecent exposure and resisting arrest.
