BENTON COUNTY, Wash. — Multiple reports confirm that a large grass fire is blazing in Webber Canyon. Authorities say that Webber Canyon Rd is closed between Badger Canyon Rd and County Well Rd for the time being.
Early reports of the fire came from a Facebook post by Benton County Fire Protection District No. 2. Fire officials expect this to be an extended incident. Being that it’s one of the hottest days of the year, hot and dry conditions are likely to contribute to the spread of this fire.
Benton County Fire Protection District No. 2 requests that civilians stay clear of the area for the foreseeable future.
Shortly after, a post by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the road closure. They also announced that the fire began when subjects were target practicing on Bureau of Land Management land.
This is a breaking news story that will be updated with more information once it becomes clear.
