SELAH, Wash. — A burglary turned into a missing person case after one of the suspects jumped into the Yakima River.
According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, several law enforcement agencies responded to a burglary in progress in the East Selah area on Thursday, October 6.
Authorities say the homeowner arrived to find the suspects at his residence. The suspects then allegedly followed the homeowner and rammed his truck before fleeing.
One of the suspect trucks was seized, but, despite a search with dogs and drones, the suspects were not located.
The next day, a picture of the suspects was shared on social media and the community managed to identify them. Around 9:30 p.m., deputies located one of the suspect trucks being followed by another being driven by one of the suspects. He was arrested without incident.
Deputies attempted to contact the second suspect at a home in the 500 block of Rest Haven Road. The man allegedly refused to come out and later ran out the back of the residence into the Yakima River.
Drones were once again launched in the search, but the suspect was not located.
