SEATTLE – Kelvin Leerdam’s goal in the 57th minute gave Seattle all the momentum it needed to earn its first MLS Cup victory at home Sunday.

Toronto dictated the pace for much of the match at Centurylink Field, having possession 64 percent of the first half.

“Not quite good enough,” said coach Brian Schmetzer on his team’s first-half performance.

Momentum firmly shifted in favor of Seattle in the second led by a deflected goal from Leerdam, and an energized Sounders team took over.

Toronto’s defense became more prone to mistakes in the waning minutes of the match and goals from Victor Rodriguez in ’76 and Raúl Ruidíaz ’90 sealed it.

A goal from Jozy Altidore in stoppage time was small consolation for Toronto.
