UPDATE (10 a.m. Monday) — Level 3 evacuation orders have been lowered to level 2.

ORIGINAL STORY — Level 3 evacuation orders have been issued for several areas near Mattawa.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, homes on the 23000 block of Road O-SW to R-SW are being told to leave now. State mobilization has also been approved. The fire sparked Sunday afternoon and has exploded to more than 5,000 acres with no containment. The Powerline Fire is burning east of Mattawa on the Saddle Mountains. Other areas are still under a Level 1 evacuation including the 23000 block of Road E-SW to Road N-SW. Firefighters are bringing in planes to help fight the fire from above. They’re grabbing water from the Columbia River, so those nearby are being warned to watch out for them. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
