Kennewick Historic Waterfront District final draft open for comment
KENNEWICK, Wash. — Ahead of a public review and comment period beginning today, the Port of Kennewick released concept images for a proposed re-design of the city’s Historic Waterfront District. The port’s Board of Commissioners will consider adopting this final master plan at its commission meeting on June 8.
These redevelopment plans are meant to unify Clover Island, Columbia Gardens Wine & Artisan Village, The Willows and Cable Greens as one amenity district. This would direct investments into the region over the course of the next 15-20 years. The basis of the project is to adapt to the city’s growing community and interests by creating new amenities that see through the Port’s goal of creating a mixed-use investment. This was a crucial goal of the Clover Island Master Plan that was passed in 2005.
The comment period will last from Wednesday, May 26 until Tuesday, June 8. If you’d like to review the Port of Kennewick’s plan and/or submit feedback, you can do so by clicking here.
This Historic Waterfront District proposal aims to create a more upscale environment in the Port of Kennewick region that would build new housing, commerce and tourism.
Proposed amenities include an open-air event space, pop-up retail shops, increased dining options and food truck space on Clover Island. It would also create a plaza near the Veterans Memorial Christmas Tree, improvements to trails and paths, townhouses throughout the region, an indoor artisan market near Duffy’s Pond, and much more.
The proposal, which includes many plans, maps and charts, is a 65-page document made open to the public so community members can get a better sense of what this project entails.
