Locals discover mushroom varieties at 7th annual Wild Mushroom Show

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Valley Mushroom Society hosted its 7th annual Wild Mushroom Show at the Yakima Arboretum on Sunday afternoon.

There were over 80 different mushrooms that were at the show.

Bob Camarata is the treasurer of the organization and said members had been picking up mushrooms since Wednesday so they could be ready for the show.

“We just want to educate people on the different mushrooms that are in our area,” said Camarata.

Sharon Thompson is the vice president of the organization and has been a member for over 3 years after one of her friends, who is a founding member, introduced her to it.

“We went to White Pass and just picked up a couple of mushrooms,” said Thompson.

To be part of the Yakima Valley Mushroom Society people are required to pay a membership fee of $20.

Their next meeting will be on November 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Yakima Arboretum.
