Local reporter robbed at gunpoint in Kennewick
KENNEWICK, Wash. — UPDATE 7:25 a.m. – KAPP-KVEW just spoke with Lieutenant Aaron Clem with the Kennewick Police Department who tells us the victim was a local news reporter covering the teacher strike.
Police say the robber got into the young woman’s car as it was parked in the parking lot of the Kennewick School District. He pointed a gun at her as she was seated in the driver seat and told her to drive.
The victim complied and the robber got out of the car before it left the parking lot. He got away with a microphone, according to police.
The victim was not injured.
ORIGINAL STORY – Kennewick police are responding to reports of a robbery on Tuesday morning.
Police were in the area of Olympia Street stretching from 1st Avenue to 10th Avenue looking for a suspect.
The suspect is described as “a thin built Hispanic male approximately 5’8.”
They used a K9 unit in their search.
Drivers and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area for now.
