Loose Cows Cause Injury Accident

Pregnant woman killed when son backs over her in minivan

One person was injured this morning after striking cows that were wandering in the roadway north of Wapato.

According to the Washington State Patrol, 51-year-old Wesley Smith of Yakima was northbound on State Route 397 when he swerved to hit the animals, and drove 200 feet up a jersey barrier.

That caused his semi truck’s fuel tank to rupture.

Smith was able to get out through the passenger side door and sustained only minor injuries.

No word on the condition of the animals.
