Lyft donates free rides to help Yakima residents access healthcare
YAKIMA, Wash. — Lyft is helping Yakima residents better access healthcare by donating a free ride for every ride taken between now and the end of the year.
The ride share service is giving those free ride vouchers — for up to $10 — to the Yakima Valley Community Foundation.
“We are, in turn, going to make sure that some of our most vulnerable people in our community actually get those rides . . .to take them to and from health care appointments,” YVCF CEO Sharon Miracle said.
Miracle said a 2018 survey of community members by the Yakima County Health Care Coalition found that lack of transportation was one of the biggest barriers to people accessing health care.
YVCF will be giving the vouchers to Yakima Neighborhood Health and the Homeless Network, who will distribute them to those most in need.
“We know this makes a difference; this is just a small start, but having affordable transportation and accessible transportation in our community is really important,” Miracle said.
