Man accused of murdering his mother in Franklin Co. arrested
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. — A man accused of murdering his mother in Franklin County has been found and arrested, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives say Clemente Rodriguez Torres is suspected of killing his mother, Estela Torres Rodriguez, on March 28.
Tiburcio Larios Rodriguez, who is Clemente’s father and Estela’s husband, is also accused of her murder. He’s still on the run.
“It’s a piece of the closure, but we’re not going to stop obviously until we find Tiburcio and get him arrested, and of course find Estela,” said Franklin County Sheriff Jim Raymond.
Clemente Rodriguez Torres had been evading law enforcement until Thursday, when he was arrested by U.S. Border Parol officials. He was attempting to enter the U.S. at the San-Ysidro border, and was detained in the San Diego County Jail.
Raymond hopes this will be a step towards justice.
“It’s once piece of the equation that we can put to rest with him actually being in custody,” Raymond said. “Figure out what’s going to happen with the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office can figure out what they’re going to do with him.”
The sheriff’s office said last month the two murder suspects were believed to have fled to Mexico.
Torres’ brother was previously arrested as part of the murder investigation but has since been freed.
The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office is beginning the extradition process to bring Clemente Rodriguez Torres back to Franklin County, where he faces first-degree murder charges.
It is believed that Tiburcio Larios Rodriguez is still in Mexico.
Estela Torres Rodriguez’s remains have not been found. Raymond said they have exhausted resources. They’ve used planes, drones, ATVs and more. The sheriff believes her remains are somewhere in Franklin County.
