Man arrested for drive by shooting, unlawful possession of gun in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. — A 27-year-old man was arrested in Yakima early Sunday morning after allegedly firing a gun from a vehicle window.  

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Chumley was travelling south of S. 1st Street just south of Nob Hill Boulevard around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, October 9. He heard shots being fired, then saw a red sedan pull out from a parking lot nearby.  

One of the vehicle’s occupants allegedly fired off several rounds from the window.  

A high-risk stop was conducted and three people were detained.  

The vehicle was seized and a search warrant was obtained. A .40 caliber handgun was found in the search, matching shell casings found at the scene.  

Police determined a 27-year-old convicted felon has fired the rounds. He was booked on felony charges of drive by shooting and unlawful possession of a firearm.  

A second passenger was arrested for allegedly attempting to kick out the Deputy’s patrol car window.
