Man attempts to break into Kennewick home, swims across canal to get away
KENNEWICK, Wash. — A man is in jail after attempting to break into a home and swimming across a canal to get away.
Kennewick Police say Dah Ler, 25, was in a homeowner’s backyard on Bruneau Place near Kennewick Avenue Sunday afternoon. Ler opened a back door and tried to get inside before being confronted by the resident.
Police say they spotted the man on the north canal bank close by where he had just swam across. Officers attempted to stop Ler but he took off.
The man jumped several fences and was soon found by officers. Ler climbed on top of a box truck and began to negotiate with officers, according to officials.
After a few minutes, Ler jumped off the truck and lunged at one of the officers. Kennewick Police used their taser to stop the man.
Ler is facing numerous charges including criminal trespassing, obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest, and two warrants.
No one was hurt during the incident.
