SEATTLE – A man is dead after he was shot in the face while driving on a Seattle highway Sunday night.

Troopers were called to the scene of a single-car crash involving a driver and passenger on State Route 509 southbound near South Cloverdale Street around 8:40 p.m.

When they arrived, they saw the driver of car had been shot in the face and began to perform CPR. The driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he died on Monday.

Troopers determined that the victim was driving when he was struck by gunfire from another vehicle, causing him to crash into the barrier that divides north and southbound lanes.

The passenger was unable to provide a description of the suspect vehicle.

Evidence was recovered at the scene to be analyzed at the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab.

Detectives will be working with local and federal partners to investigate the crime.
