Man flees from Walla Walla police three times before turning himself in

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – A theft suspect led two car chases and a foot pursuit before turning himself in to Walla Walla police on Wednesday.

Investigators identified Dustin Keith Rand, 31, as a suspect in a theft case on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and located his vehicle in the area of Second Avenue and Poplar Street later that day.

When police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Rand fled in his car. Police chased him for a short time before terminating the pursuit due to safety concerns.

Then on Wednesday, Jan. 1, officers spotted Rand driving at high speeds on Otis Street near East Alder Street. When they tried to pull him over, he fled again, so they chased him again. They called off the chase near East Tietan Street and South Third Avenue due to Rand’s unsafe driving, police said.

Officers located the suspect’s car near the 800 block of E. Pleasant St. When they approached the vehicle, Rand took off running on foot through a yard. The officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.

A short time later, Rand called dispatch to turn himself in. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Walla Walla County Jail without further incident.
