Man found dead in Toppenish, homicide investigation underway
TOPPENISH, Wash. — Police found a 23-year-old Yakama Nation member’s body in Toppenish early Wednesday morning. His name has not been released.
He was found at about 3:15 a.m. in the 200 block of South Elm Street. Officers attempted to revive him, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins.
Authorities found evidence of violence and the case is being investigated as a potential homicide, according to Sgt. Mike Russell with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Russell was not able to release more information because the case is being investigated by Yakama Tribal Police and the FBI.
The man’s autopsy will be completed by Wednesday afternoon.
