Man killed in Pasco officer-involved shooting identified as 18-year-old
PASCO, Wash. — The Franklin County Coroner has released the name of the man killed in a Saturday night officer-involved shooting that also left two Pasco officers with stab wounds.
Alejandro Betancourt-Mendoza, 18, of Pasco, was shot and killed after police say he stabbed two officers while they were responding to a property theft call.
Pasco police say two officers — a man and a woman — responded about 8 p.m. to reports of property theft at a home near 18th Avenue and Pearl Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, police say Betancourt-Mendoza showed a knife and stabbed the two officers, which is when police reportedly shot him.
The female officer suffered a cut to the face and needed stitches in the emergency room. The male officer underwent surgery for lacerations.
Both officers have been released from the hospital. The identities of the officers have not been released.
The Tri-Cities Special Investigative Unit is in charge of the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
