Man shot in the face during drive-by shooting in Yakima County
TOPPENISH, Wash.- The Yakima Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident near Fort Road and Highway 97 where a 24-year old man had been shot in the face during a drive-by shooting Saturday night.
Sheriff’s deputies said the victim was waiting at the crosswalk on Fort Road and Highway 97 waiting to cross when a silver sedan turned onto the highway. Witnesses said a passenger leaned out and yelled at the victim before pulling out a pistol and shooting at him.
There were at least five shots fired, with one of them striking the victim’s face. Officials believe there were at least four people in the sedan, which fled north on Highway 97. At this time, law enforcement does not know if the incident was gang related, though officials said the victim does not have any known gang affiliation. The victim told authorities he did not know the suspects.
The victim was initially treated at the Toppenish Hospital before being air lifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for surgery.
The Yakima Sheriff’s Office said no suspects have yet been identified. The vehicle is believed to be a late 90’s or early 2000’s Honda Accord or Acura four door sedan. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Yakima Sheriff’s Office, Detective Division.
