Man with gunshot wound died in Toppenish after crashing into wall

TOPPENISH, Wash. — Police are seeking more information regarding a Sunday night shooting that led an injured man to crash into a cinder block wall and pass away at an area hospital shortly after.

According to an alert from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of N Meyers Rd & Fraley Cutoff Rd in Toppenish following reports of shots being fired in the area.

Shortly after, Toppenish police officers informed Yakima County deputies of a vehicle crash nearly a mile down the road at N Meyers Rd & Fraley Cutoff Rd. Responding officials noticed a car that had collided with a cinder block wall off the side of the road.

After making contact with the lone occupant of the vehicle, they learned that this individual had suffered a gunshot wound. Medics rushed to the scene and took the gunshot victim to a Yakima hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The victim has since been identified as a 32-year-old Zillah resident named Eric Paredes.

Detectives met deputies at each location to launch a formal investigation, which included processing the crime scene. Now, they are calling on the community to offer more details.
