May Day protests planned
It is May 1 st , also known as May Day and International Workers Day. It dates back to a deadly workers strike in Chicago hundreds of years ago.
This year, many marches are planned across the US against the immigration policies of President Donald Trump.

Organizations in Portland, Salem and Seattle and Pasco are all participating in May Day protests today.
May Day has traditionally been used to promote workers’ rights and to protest poor labor conditions. But in 2006, with congress considering federal legislation that would have made living in the United States without permission a felony.
1 million people across the United States are expected to use May Day to protest the law.
