Mesa man, 65, dies almost two weeks after violent SR 24 crash
GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — A Mesa man has died almost two weeks after he and his wife were struck by a teenage driver on State Route 24 near the Vernita Bridge.
Kenneth Crawford, 65, was pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle at 12:30 p.m. Monday.
The victim and his wife, 62-year-old Karen Crawford, were traveling in a PT Cruiser when they were struck head-on by a Honda Fit driven by 18-year-old Felix Diaz on Aug. 1.
The Washington State Patrol said Diaz caused the crash by trying to pass two semi-trucks on the highway.
Diaz’ passenger Gisella Morales, 15, of Mattawa died at the scene.
Kenneth and Karen Crawford were airlifted to Harborview. Diaz was rushed to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland by ambulance.
KAPP-KVEW has reached out to Harborview and Kadlec to get an update on Karen and Diaz’ condition.
A family member said an account to help the Crawfords has been established at Numerica Credit Union. If you would like to donate, just ask to contribute to Ross and Karen Crawford.
