A Michigan couple is accused of beating their children and keeping them locked in what authorities described as a “dungeon.”

WLNS reports that Yenier and Sarah Conde are each charged with 10 counts of first- and second-degree child abuse.

Authorities said the Condes would lock their children, ages 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11, inside a dark bedroom with the door screwed shut for punishment. The children would sometimes be whipped and unfed, not allowed access to the bathroom and instead given diapers to use, according to WLNS.

The alleged abuse also includes the parents keeping one of the children, who has cancer, from seeing a doctor.

The allegations date back to 2009, with visits from Child Protective Services until the children were permanently removed in 2017.
