Milton-Freewater police arrest attempted murder suspect

MILTON-FREEWATER, Ore. — Milton-Freewater police arrested a man Tuesday on multiple felony charges related to a shooting last summer.

Aurelio Villalobos Rodriguez, 38, is facing charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon among other charges.

Police said Rodriguez was the fifth and final person arrested in connection to a gang-related drive-by shooting that happened on 5th Street in Milton-Freewater on Aug. 17, 2018. There were multiple victims but no one was injured, police said.

On Tuesday, Rodriguez called the police department wanting to meet with a detective at his home. The detective responded and found Rodriguez walking near Northwest 8th Avenue and Lamb Street.

The detective gave Rodriguez a courtesy ride to the police station where the suspect was informed that he had a warrant for his arrest.

He was booked at the Umatilla County Jail on $1.4 million bail.

The following suspects were also arrested in connection to the shooting:

Juan Venegas Esquivel of Walla Walla – He took a plea deal involving 60 months prison time for unlawful use of a weapon.

Charley Lozano of Walla Walla – He pled to two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and an assault that occurred while in jail. He is set to be sentenced on April 26.

Michael Cantu of Walla Walla – He took a plea deal involving 60 months prison time for unlawful use of a weapon.

Gabriel Arriaga of Milton-Freewater – He is currently in the court judicial process.
